VR Headsets + Smart Phones + Cool Apps
What if you could do anything and go anywhere?
People on drugs may think this is always a possibility. Now it’s looking like you’re going to be able to do that with virtual reality. You can put a Samsung Gear VR headset and use your Galaxy S7 cell phone to transport into a 360-degree simulation of the world.
The thousands upon thousands of people whom pre-ordered Samsung’s S7 got a happy surprise as they were also sent a VR headset for free. 2016 is being led by virtual reality and Samsung is offering some people the head start into this new realm. Samsung’s Gear VR was released in 2015, but it’s only very recently that the VR technology is starting to be applied showing us the real endless potential of virtual reality.
Oculus’s store has several games with many more immersive VR experiences on the way. And there’s also a lot of options for cell phone users who don’t like to play games.
Netflix shows a new way virtual reality can be utilized as people are able to sit on a couch in a fancy apartment while watching House of Cards – you just simply plug in your headphones and immerse yourself.
Streetview VR enables people to transport anywhere on the map as you swivel your head left and right to see different views. You’re able to speak what you want to do as it has voice recognition. You can even explore underwater in a beautiful coral reef. There are also apps that enable you to tour museums and view concerts and there are several apps created for relaxation and meditation as you can hear the waves crash on a beach and watch the sunset among other options.
There’s even an app that was developed by Wellington company Genulin Interactive at the Malaghan Institute to enable people to view inside a body to see how cancer affects cells.
These ideas aren’t particularly crazy, but in virtual reality, they are special as it enables people to immerse. There’s even a social network for virtual reality called Altspace VR.
A negative about virtual reality is that the image quality isn’t nearly as clear as you will see on a laptop or an HD TV and that can be frustrating when watching a VR film. It’s also not very comfortable (to say the least) to put on a VR headset.
The Galaxy S7 is a good cell phone that’s similar to the previous S6 but has a few improvements including a 12 megapixel camera, a larger battery and a quicker processor. The cell phone is powerful and well made for virtual reality.
