7 Movies with Virtual Reality Experiences
The non-tech companies are already experimenting with virtual reality technology like Dior, McDonald’s, and Six Flags, but they are not the only ones that are experimenting with virtual reality. There is another sector that is becoming involved in virtual reality.
To give the viewers a new experience of their content, the movie studios have been turning to virtual reality through virtual reality bonus content and trailers. In some cases, the movie studios like Century Fox, Disney, Warner Brothers, Lionsgate, and Marvel have done work in this space of virtual reality by releasing virtual reality videos as long as 20 minutes.
Below are the seven movies that you can experience in virtual reality, which will prove handy now as the Oculus Rift VR headset has finally released on March 28, 2016.
Movie Production Includes Virtual Reality
1. Star Wars
If there exists a movie that is made for virtual reality, then that is Star Wars. Last year, Verizon, Google, and Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB studio joined together to create a virtual reality experience for Google Cardboard of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
2. The Hunger Games
This official Hunger Games virtual reality experience will allow you to explore key moments from throughout Katniss’ journey from across all the four films of the series as a 360-degree narrative.
3. The Martian
The 20th Century Fox studio released a short virtual reality video clip for the movie, The Martian on Samsung’s Milk virtual reality portal in November last year. This video was just like a trailer.
The full experience movie is expected to be released this year and be 15 to 20 minutes long in length. This immersive adventure movie allows the viewers to experience Mars from the view of Matt Damon’s character, by using the actors and sets from the movie during the production.
“Wild – The Experience” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and the Consumer Electronics Show this past January, after lots of buzz. This three minute 360-degree virtual reality video shows the journey a little less lonely as Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon). One of the YouTube users has uploaded a view of this experience through virtual reality glasses.
5. School of Rock
The composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, released a 360-degree virtual reality music video for the song “You’re in the band”, which features the star Alex Brightman and a cast of brilliant kids grating in the classroom to promote the Broadway adaptation of School of Rock.
6. Batman: The Animated Series
The studios of Warner Brothers, DC Entertainment and Otoy, a cloud graphic firm, have partnered to give the viewers a new kind of experience in virtual reality that lets the viewers explore the Batcave from any angle they want. Writer Paul Dini, producer Bruce Timm, and voice actor Kevin Conroy help in making the video available on Samsung’s virtual reality content platform, which is based on Batman: The Animated Series, a classical cartoon movie from the 1990s.
7. The Lion King
This virtual reality experience offers the viewers a new and unique perspective on The Lion King’s iconic opening number, “Circle of Life” and is based on the hit’s Broadway adaptation.
