A Different Prediction for VR
SuperData is a research firm that has some interesting predictions for virtual reality. In January 2016, SuperData forecasted that VR would generate $5.1 billion in 2016. Now, in March 2016, they’re reducing that estimate to $3.6 billion.
The company said that it overestimated the market for PC and mobile VR including the HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift among others. SuperData still predicts that VR will generate $40 billion in spending by the year 2020.
SuperData is predicting consumers to purchase 16.8 million mobile VR gadgets by the end of 2016.
Stephanie Llamas, SuperData analyst, said, “After conversations with key hardware and software companies, we are confident that pure forecasts have been adjusted to more accurately reflect the VR market’s potential.” Llamas also noted that part of the reason for the prediction change is due to the limited potential with the PC customer base.
