Altspace VR Integrating with Slack
AltspaceVR just released a Slack integration that enables people to easily bring team members into a meeting space in viral reality. They can communicate in real time with each other.
Altspace VR’s CEO, Eric Romo, spoke about their new VR Call app on Android at the SVVR 2016 event. The app enables people to connect friends and family and quickly invite them via links using their current social channels to move to a dedicated AltspaceVR room. Eric Romo said, “If you haven’t had the experience of connecting with loved ones, who might be thousands of miles away, in VR, you should do it. That sense of physical space, that the person you love is standing right there in front of you, when you [only] get to see them once a year… is something that you will never forget. And this is why we think a billion people will use VR.”
After they created the app, Romo realized that there was a group of people that weren’t being accounted for; the professional contacts and fellow employees. AltspaceVR team members kept using the VR Call app to make a room to meet in with AltspaceVR and then they would paste to Slack, so that’s how the idea for AltspaceVR Slack was thought of. The way it works the integration between AltspaceVR and Slack installs a small bot in your Slack company that enables you access to the /vrcall command. Once you press the command into the Slack channel, you go to the name of the room that you’re creating and the bot then automatically creates the room and posts the link in the chat immediately after.
You’re able to have a team member join the room from an Oculus Rift or Samsung Gear VR for example or even just with their PC using “desktop mode” without any VR headset whatsoever. The smoother it is for people to connect in and out of virtual reality with each other, the happier people will be.
AltspaceVR’s Slack integration seems to be a great step in the right direction.
