ESI Group and Sener Partnership on Integration of Virtual Reality Solution to Foran
ESI Group and Sener Collaboration
A partnership agreement has been struck between Sener and ESI Group to embark on global marketing of the latter’s IC.IDO Virtual Reality solution, and has integrated Foran to create an immersive 3D experience with functions specific for its clients.
SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. is a privately-owned multi-faceted engineering and consultancy company. Set up in 1956 as a firm of naval architects, the company has spread its wings into activities to become one of the leading European companies in the fields of aerospace, infrastructures and transport, power and process and marine. It employs over 2000 professionals, 90% of whom are devoted to technical tasks, and is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 certified for all working centers and activities.

For over half a century, SENER has provided professional services to a diverse group of ship builders, designers, owners and operators, as well as national and international bodies in the marine field. The company has never abandoned its original marine proficiences, and it is in this area that it has made its most valuable contribution, the FORAN System.
The in-house ship design capabilities brings a lot to the development and the support of FORAN.
According to Sener Marine, “From the first stage of the conceptual design, through the initial and classification designs to the detail engineering, FORAN is a fundamental tool to reduce costs and to improve the productivity in the design and construction of vessels. The System is applicable to all types of ships, regardless of their size, and can be fully customized to the particular requirements of each user. FORAN represents the leading edge CAD/CAM/CAE technology in shipbuilding, providing an integrated solution for the complete design of the ship, including hull forms definition, naval architecture calculations, hull structure, outfitting, electrical and accommodation spaces, which allows the application of the concurrent engineering concept in a distributed design office environment.”
The IC.IDO and Foran integration will very likely create a solution to the shipbuilding industry’s evolving trend of distributing the engineering work of vessels across different companies, and design creation for effective ships.
A major feature of the system includes provision of an integrated solution for ship design, including forms definition, naval architecture calculations, hull structure, machinery, outfitting, electronics, and accommodation spaces.
The basis of ESI Group’s IC.IDO is a virtual reality technology, which offers real-time physics simulation replicating realistic behavior of virtual objects, and features unique collaboration capabilities to facilitate a seamless cooperation on the virtual model between remote sites.
Quick process integration is made feasible by Its multi-CAD and PDM support
With its integration with Foran, IC.IDO will allow an immersive user interface and real-time physical simulation.
The whole assembly line as well as the manufacturing and maintenance process can now be verified as a result of the product’s ability to simulate movements, collisions and human models.
COO Emilio Mencía de Miguel, COO of ESI Group Hispania and South America said: “Foran is the most complete, advanced shipbuilding system on the market and its integration with theIC.IDO virtual reality system will create unique opportunities for collaboration and process integration in an immersive 3D environment that will further assist the decision-making processes of the different teams in the shipyard, or decision-making between these teams and the different design offices”.
