Expedia Takes St. Jude’s Sick Children on a Trip Around the World

Objectives of the New Initiative

“Wе nееdеd the сhildrеn to fееl like they hаvе bееn trаnѕроrtеd tо thеѕе places аnd VR tесhnоlоgу wаѕ a mаjоr раrt оf it,” ѕауѕ Jаnnеаu. “Withоut VR, thе experience, and thе соnnесtiоnѕ thеѕе kidѕ had with thе Exреdiа еmрlоуееѕ wоuldnot hаvе been аѕ powerful.”
Walia says the objective of Dream Adventures was to help these kids experience the world, dive in the sea, play with monkeys and horses and to have a wonderful experience. An objective they said they met, notwithstanding bringing awareness for the hospital.
Why 360 VR was the best platform for the project
The venture took around nine months to finish and included a constant partnership with the children and Expedia representatives, or “trekkers,” who Expedia sent to the destinations.
Virtual reality was the best way for the project to actually bring these exciting places to the kids. Though other forms of Virtual Reality technology, such as VR goggles, could also work as well, Janneau says putting headsets on can be a bit discomfort for children going through chemotherapy. Thus, the immersive 360 VR experiences give them the chance to enjoy the locations in a special way planned to their specific situation.
