Factors That Will Determine Oculus Rift Sales
Oculus Rift is one of the top brands of VR headsets available in the market today, but there are a few reasons why it might not reach its full potential. Virtual reality as a whole is still in its beginning stages and a lot is still unknown. The first generation products are expensive and the controllers that complete the experience aren’t available yet. So many people out there still believe virtual reality is just a facet of the 3D TV. It is still early days to make conclusions and the cost of owning a VR headset is still more expensive than the Xbox or gaming PC but it offers an experience like no other.
There are so many factors that will effect the overall impact of the Oculus Rift on the market, some good, some bad, and some of them will be described thus.
First of all, with prescription glasses, it becomes a real mess trying to wear the Oculus Rift on your head. The Rift was designed to be on your head without resting on your nose and the weight distribution on the Oculus Rift ensures you can wear it a long time. But those with prescription glasses are going to experience a lot of discomfort trying to use the headset. If you wear glasses you probably have to first slide them into the headset first before putting it on.
The Oculus Rift incorporates Oculus technology and it is thus equipped with higher resolution display and much better graphics card compared to some of its counterparts like the Samsung Gear VR. With the headset you can look almost in any direction in virtual environments and this makes the experience of virtual reality all the more exciting especially with video games.
One big concern with VR headsets is the occurrence of nausea during gameplay and this is down to something called cue correction. Apparently, what your eyes see and what your body feels are two different things and our brain continually tries to compensate. Oculus eliminates a lot of this in their headset by tracking and the 90PS visuals. But the threat of nausea is not completely eliminated.
Portability is another important factor to consider and surprisingly the Oculus Rift is portable. While it is impractical to take your gaming PC and VR headset to a local coffee shop to play games you might have to move perhaps from your home or travel somewhere and you want your VR gaming system to come with you. The Rift packaging was built as a carrying case and all the components like the headset, IR sensor and controller can be tuck away nicely in the box. This box is no bigger than your briefcase. And as the Rift doesn’t require any external power requirements that makes it even more portable because you want have extra cables and power boxes to pack.
All of this will in some way determine the overall success of the Oculus Rift in the market. Most of these factors will have a positive influence on its sales.
