Fox Sports to Broadcast March Madness Tournament in Virtual Reality
March Madness is exciting every year, no doubt. It fills our TV screens and takes up our office talk and dinner talk, whether we’re Basketball fans or not.
The Big East Tournament is a three day event and on March 10th, Fox will be broadcasting the tournament in virtual reality. The first game that will be broadcast in virtual reality is the No.1 seed Villanova vs. the winner of No.8 Georgetown and No. 9 DePaul.
Even though 2016 is just starting, Fox is making a big statement this year by attempting to help change the way that we view sporting events. In February 2016, Fox Sports announced a 5 year deal to broadcast live sports in virtual reality.
Eric Shanks, Fox Sports President, COO & Executive Producer said, “Our relationship with NextVR comes at a time as the demand to enjoy these amazing ‘like being there’ experiences expands.”
NextVR has already used the same technology for Major League Baseball, the U.S. Open and the National Hockey League.
Fox fans will be able to watch the March Madness games in VR with their Samsung Gear VR headset.
