Your New Kitchen Can Come to Life Before Your Eyes
What do you think of your current kitchen? Do you like it? Do you want to try something new? What if I told you, that you could actually try a new kitchen out without actually buying a new kitchen?
It can be difficult to imagine things without actually being able to see them in front of you especially when you’re looking at remodeling something like your kitchen. You want to be able to compare things and undo certain mistakes that you might make with colors or new equipment. Ikea has come out with a new technological system that’s available through steam and its here to help you plan your new kitchen.
Available on an app which can be seen through the HTC Vive, they are offering technology to look into setting up your new kitchen. Want a certain design? Maybe you want to try out an all tiled look or perhaps a rustic wood? How about red cabinets with a green marbled interior? Don’t forget Ikea also has an option to change the outlook of how you’re viewing the new design. Perhaps you want to see the dangers that can come to your children because of your new design? They even let you look at the set up from the view point and perspective of a three foot child, or little person. You might end up liking the new layout, but economical is it towards your movements and is it set up for ease of use? You can find that out by heating up a meal in your new virtual kitchen.
Being still in a beta mode, Ikea is hoping to receive some customer feedback from its customers that can actually afford a setup from HTC to view and interact with their app. They want to know what they can do to make it a better experience because obviously they want to sell more of their products and they can do that by letting you try all of their kitchen products from the comfort of your home, probably while you’re in your pajamas. However, working off of its current modeling it shouldn’t be all that difficult to edit the coding to add improvements as time goes on.
So maybe you don’t even need to redecorate your house, just hop into your virtual kitchen and maybe in the future you can have a full virtual house, with virtual neighbors and friends. It’s almost like looking at the decade old Gamecube game, Animal Crossing where you’re in some sort of land where you have to make friends with locals and decorate your house, while the freedom to do what you want is immense in this game it truly has nothing to compare in terms of Ikea’s app.
The unique thing about this app is that, unlike other decorating themes, this isn’t boring, because ultimately there are infinite combos that you can place together in your new kitchen. And then the icing on the cake is that you actually get to try and cook in your kitchen after setting it all up, and if it doesn’t work, out all you have to do is start over from scratch. This concept is shown flawlessly while using the full real estate of the room by using sounds, proximity of objects, and fear to keep you fully immersed in the story. Even if you don’t want to be.
