Tech Leader Leaves Rackspace to Pursue Virtual Reality
Robert Scoble is a tech leader, blogger and author. He is leaving RackSpace on April 4th, 2016 to begin working for UploadVR with a focus on VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality).
When he arrives to UploadVR’s San Francisco offices, he will be helping them build games, hardware and applications as they relate to VR and AR.
Scoble became particularly interested in virtual reality when he was visiting Dublin, Ireland in 2014 for the annual Web Summit. He saw the Oculus demo room and after seeing people walk out of the experience, their expressions got him thinking, “Holy shit, this is an amazing produce to have on your face.”
While working for Rackspace, Scoble was asked to focus around the Cloud but he was drawn more so towards the changes he saw happening in consumer technology. By coming on board with UploadVR, he now has the opportunity to work with a focus on a “deeper set of products, bigger than 3D TV or Google Glass”, said Scoble.
Scoble says that virtual reality is starting to work and augmented reality won’t really become prevalent for a few more years. He thinks that we’re going to have a big disruption in our culture as normal activities such as playing games and watching TV are set to drastically change.
