Sony’s Announcement for PlayStation VR Headset in October
Sony has become the first to launch a mass- market virtual reality headset, which could move the VR technology to the mainstream. The device which is worn on the head features a high definition screen and motion tracking technology which will allow players inhibit and explore computer generated worlds. It will be launched in October and it will sell for $399 in the US and £349 in the UK which makes it the cheapest VR system amongst others which include Facebook’s Oculus Rift selling at $599/£499.
Industry experts say that this has enabled VR technology to move into the consumer mainstream. There are more than 100 games confirmed in the PlayStation VR device as the PS4 install base is huge. Sony has announced that more games are being developed for the device and over 50 titles are expected to be released by the end of 2016. Purchasers of its headset will get a collection of VR games for free.
The low price and the great establishment technology behind it is certainly what most Electronic Arts and game publishers will be watching with great interest basing success on its future investment and development.
