Telecom Leader Wilcon Embraces Virtual Reality With Legend VR Partnership
Three-dimensional virtual worlds are set to become more of a reality, thanks to a partnership between fiber-optic pioneer Wilcon and full-scale virtual reality leader Legend VR. The companies recently announced a partnership in which Wilcon will provide private data center space and fiber-optic network connectivity to support Legend VR’s growing network demand.
Legend VR is the new full-scale virtual reality division of Legend 3D. It builds tools designed to help studios, filmmakers, agencies, and creative content producers realize high-performance interactive virtual reality content. Recent virtual reality projects by Legend VR include “Take Flight,” from The New York Times’ Great Performers series; and “The Big One”, from Hulu VR and Lionsgate, for which Legend completed CG/VFX work, stereo conversion, on-set capture of talent, color correction, and final 360-degree rendering, among other services.
“The boom of 3D and virtual reality content has spurred an even greater demand for ultra-broadband access,” said the chief executive officer of Wilcon, Jon DeLuca. “We are very excited to be able to partner with Legend VR and look forward to supporting its future growth requirements.”
Legend VR, with hubs in both Los Angeles and Toronto, has requirements for secure, high-speed data storage and transport that have reached substantial levels in recent months.
“In our business of virtual reality and 3D conversion, the importance of a safe and fast data network cannot be understated,” said Bryan Gauna, Legend 3D’s vice president of technology. “We were in a time crunch, and Wilcon provided us with data center infrastructure in a 10-day time frame that has greatly increased our efficiency. We’re happy to be a Wilcon partner and are thrilled by the detailed service they were able to prepare in a time-sensitive manner.”
Legend has plans to increase its footprint with Wilcon in the next 30 days, resulting in an expansion of its share of Wilcon’s data center capacity at their One Wilshire Building headquarters by nearly 45 percent. Legend will be able to take advantage of all the interconnection and networking options offered by Wilcon from this key, global communications hub by locating at the strategic One Wilshire location.
Wilcon, which was founded in 1998, is the premier West Coast provider of best-in-class fiber optic network and data center infrastructure. Being one of the largest fiber optic networks in Southern California, Wilcon offers a great reach of nearly 3000 route miles of fiber with diverse routes connecting major data centers, enterprise locations and wireless communications sites all over the region. Wilcon delivers dark fiber and ultra-broadband optical services for businesses, wireless carriers and other communications service providers that ensure optimal performance for their mission-critical data traffic and applications. Wilcon also owns and operates top data center and carrier-neutral colocation facilities in downtown Los Angeles, including its key hub at the One Wilshire Building.
