US Soccer Federation Uses VR to Release New Crest
For a few years, the US Soccer Federation went back and forth with the redesigning of it’s crest, the red, white and blue crest that’s on the national teams jerseys for the men and women.
When it was time to release the new crest, the federation which is essentially the governing body for soccer voted on bypassing traditional media.
Instead, they decided to make their announcement to fans using Google Cardboard, a UnS Soccer Federation scarf and a virtual reality promo video.
“This is an area that I think is still in a really unique phase,” said Jay Berhalter, U.S. Soccer’s Chief Commercial Officer. “We’re not really sure what it will need up being. But when we looked at it to launch the new crest, we thought it would be a really good fit for this type of dynamic.”
U.S. Soccer delivered packages containing gifts at about 8,000 registered club supporters.
Public Relations consultant and principal of Holtz Communication & Technology, Shel Holtz, said “There’s a lot of content these days, a lot of noise. But as long as you can be early with some of the new technology people are talking about, then you have an edge.”
