Virtual Reality Theme Park, ‘The Void’ Opens in Times Square

The new Ghostbusters film will be the basis of the experience in the space.

Over the last 6 months, no other experience in technology has been talked about like The Void has. The Void, based in Utah is an immersive virtual reality theme park which takes users into an entirely different world which they can interact with, feel it and see it. A VR headset is used and the headset gets its power from a supercomputer backpack so as to enable untethered movement. A haptic suit that provides sensory experience and monitors the movement of users is worn.

The major point to look at is that this doesn’t fall into the category of your regular Virtual Reality, it is more like reality and things like heat lamps, fog machines and moving podiums all bring about a convincing atmosphere physically to the VR world. Testimonies so far have accentuated the facts that abound in this experience.

Creation of entertainment centers in various parts of the world and also versions of what was built in Utah powered by the same technology on a smaller scale are the company’s business plan.

The content that will be gotten from The Void will be created by it and also serve as an immersive version of major films and video games. You can pay extra $10 or $20 to spend 15 minutes interacting with the characters and environment in the universe of a movie like Star Wars. Dimension, however, announced a partnership with Sony Pictures which is its first public experience around its new Ghostbusters movie.

The venue of the first Void experience outside of Utah will be the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. A virtual exploration of the props, location, vehicles and costumes from the film will be on ground for visitors to move through and experience.

“After exploring the iconic Ghostbusters Headquarters, guests experience the epic finale, in which visitors take part in a ghost hunt of their own, saving New York City from a paranormal villain. This supernatural encounter will also include figures of the Ghostbusters crew from the new movie, all of whom are prepared to help visitors wage battle against nefarious paranormal activity.”

The Void is the brainchild of a serial startup founder, Ken Bretschneider who made a lot of money from the sale of the majority ownership stake in his cybersecurity firm, DigiCert to a private equity firm. He has entered partnership agreements with a lot of entrepreneurs who specialize in stagecraft and things relating to magic to produce a virtual reality experience that goes beyond the typical headset.

The film titled “Ghostbusters: Dimension” is set to debut on the 15th of July but it will open on 1st of July. Ivan Reitman who directed the original film and Paul Feig who directed the remake are working on the collaboration with The Void to make the film.
