VR Documentary Filmed Despite Many Challenges
Marcelle Hopkins and her team created a documentary about virtual reality called On the Brink of Famine. Where did they film this documentary? In South Sudan. Filming a documentary in South Sudan wasn’t easy as they had to deal with very hot weather, lots of GoPro cameras and a civil war among other issues they faced.
They put cameras all over South Sudan including a humanitarian food drop. The Director of the Brown Institute for Media Innovation, Mark Hanson, said, “Personally, the interesting part of their work is in the construction of narrative and risks that they were able to take with the hardware, given that they had so much control over the hardware and software.”
On the Brink of Famine is set to be released through Facebook 360 within the next year to year and a half.
