A Virtual Reality Dome for Military Simulations
U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center has created a VR dome for military simulations. The dome immerses fighters in a virtual environment while testing their skills and also allowing the Army to analyze a soldier’s ability to think.
The dome provides a 180-degree horizontal field view by using a front projection that’s high density.
While this is big news for the military, this is only the beginning. Scientists at the Natick lab are also working on creating metrics to measure the cognitive workload while performing tasks for a mission.
There are going to be additional features for the dome VR experience that include entire body motion tracking and low frequency vibration among other features as well.
