VR Takes Over SXSW – Creates Question of What Is Quality
South by Southwest Interactive festival in Austin, Texas was taken over by virtual reality this year. It’s hard walking anywhere without seeing the letters VR.
If you walked by the Samsung booth, you would see a line that seemed to go on forever of people waiting to try their VR roller coaster. With an abundance of VR seeming to pop up everywhere, it makes you wonder what’s quality and what’s not.
Nick DiCarlo, VP of Immersive Products said, “Last year, VR was nothing here compared to now. It seems like you’re saying, ‘Hey, heres XYZ tech in VR’ and that blanketing approach is not great for any technology.”
Strivr’s Director of Partnerships said it a different way… “VR here is like sex in high school. Everyone’s doing it, but not everyone’s doing it well.”
There was a survey taken recently by Horizon Media with 3,000 normal consumers which said that two thirds didn’t know about VR. So there are still lots of people that don’t even know about VR and the ones that do are still figuring it out. Over time, some companies will prevail and come out with the products that are perceived as quality to the current and future VR consumers.
